Where to Install Carpet in Your Home in Rockville, MD
Carpet is a versatile flooring option that adds comfort, warmth, and style to various spaces in your home. Here’s a guide to the best places for carpet installation:
Carpet in Basements
Basements often have higher moisture levels, making it crucial to choose a carpet that can handle potential dampness. Synthetic materials like nylon or polyester are great choices due to their moisture-resistant properties. You might also want to consider carpet tiles for basements, as they are easier to replace if damaged by water. Additionally, using moisture-resistant padding will help protect your carpet and maintain its longevity.
Carpet in Bedrooms
In bedrooms, comfort is key. Plush carpets, like frieze or textured styles, provide a soft, cozy feel underfoot, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Bedrooms typically experience low foot traffic, so you can prioritize softness and aesthetics over durability. Wool carpets can be a luxurious option, offering natural insulation and noise reduction, making your bedroom more peaceful.
Carpet in Living Rooms and Family Rooms
These high-traffic areas benefit from the soft, cozy feel of carpet. Choose durable, stain-resistant options like nylon or polyester to stand up to daily use, spills, and foot traffic. Plush, textured carpets also enhance the comfort of these gathering spaces.
Carpet in Hallways and Stairs
Hallways and stairs experience constant foot traffic, so it's important to select durable, low-pile carpets that resist wear and tear. Patterns and textures work well in these areas, helping to hide dirt and stains while adding visual interest.
Carpet in Home Offices
Carpet in an office setting creates a quiet and comfortable work environment by reducing noise levels. Low-pile carpets in neutral tones or subtle patterns provide a professional look while enhancing the room's warmth.
Carpet in Playrooms
For playrooms, consider carpets with extra padding to cushion falls and provide a soft area for kids to play. Stain-resistant and easy-to-clean carpets like polyester or solution-dyed nylon are ideal for this space.
Carpet as an Area Rug:
Area rug carpets add warmth, color, and comfort to any room. They’re perfect for defining spaces within open floor plans or adding a cozy touch to bedrooms, living rooms, and dining areas. Look for durable materials like wool or polypropylene for high-traffic zones, and consider patterns or darker colors to help hide any wear. Area rugs also offer flexibility, allowing you to easily refresh the room's look or swap them out as styles and seasons change.

Carpet Stair Runner Installation: A Stylish & Safe Solution for Your Home
Carpet stair runners are a popular choice for homeowners looking to enhance both the safety and aesthetic appeal of their staircases. A stair runner is a narrow strip of carpet installed over the middle of your stairs, leaving the edges exposed. Here are some key considerations when choosing a carpet stair runner:
Safety Benefits
Staircases can be a slippery hazard, especially for children, the elderly, or pets. Carpet runners add traction, significantly reducing the risk of slipping and falling. They also cushion footsteps, which helps protect the hardwood or other flooring underneath from wear.
Style & Design
Carpet stair runners come in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures to match your home’s décor. Whether you prefer a bold patterned runner to make a statement or a neutral tone to blend seamlessly with the surroundings, there are endless design options. Runners also soften the look of a staircase, making it feel more inviting.
Noise Reduction
Wooden stairs can amplify sound, especially in busy households. A stair runner absorbs sound, making your home quieter by minimizing the noise of footsteps.
Durability
When selecting a stair runner, durability is crucial. Choose a carpet material that can withstand high foot traffic, such as nylon, wool, or a blend. These fibers are known for their resilience and long-lasting wear.
Installation & Maintenance
Carpet stair runners are relatively easy to install, and many can be installed with a pad underneath for extra cushioning. Maintenance is simple, requiring regular vacuuming to keep them looking fresh. In case of spills or stains, spot cleaning with appropriate products will extend the life of the runner.
Incorporating a stair runner can enhance both the functionality and beauty of your home, adding a touch of elegance while improving safety and comfort. Feel free to click on any picture below to see the full project!
Carpet Guide: Essential Tips and Information
Types of Carpet: Berber, Plush, Frieze, and Patterned
Carpet comes in four distinct styles: Berber/loop, plush, frieze and patterned, each offering unique characteristics:
Berber/Loop Carpet
Berber carpets are known for their looped construction, creating a textured and nubby surface. This style is durable and resistant to wear and tear, making it suitable for high-traffic areas.
Plush Carpet
Plush carpets have a smooth, even surface with a soft and velvety texture. This style provides a luxurious feel underfoot, making it a popular choice for formal settings and areas where comfort is a priority.
Frieze Carpet
Frieze carpets have a twisted and informal appearance, with long fibers that curl in different directions. The twisted fibers create a textured and casual look, and frieze carpets are known for their durability, making them suitable for high-traffic areas.
Patterned Carpet
Patterned carpets feature designs created by variations in color or pile height. The texture can vary depending on the design, incorporating both loop and cut pile elements. Patterned carpets add visual interest and can be used to make a decorative statement in specific areas.

Types of Carpet Padding:

Yes, it can add a substantial amount of carpet to your job.
Is it possible to have a full pattern carpet?
Carpets with small prints, diamonds, and square patterns will not appear complete when the floor reaches an edge.
I have a small diamond carpet and I see the pattern is slightly shifted? Is that normal?
Generally, walls in houses are not perfectly straight. The smaller the pattern of the carpet, the more the shift of the pattern is visible.
How am I supposed to take care of woven/flat weave carpets?
These carpets require special care. Some cannot be vacuumed using a beater bar vacuum. In these carpets seams are very noticeable. Some cannot have cross seams or be seamed at all.
Is it normal to see gaps between the carpet and the steps?
It depends on the way the carpet was installed. Generally, Carpet runners can be installed in two different ways:
Waterfall: The carpet will extend over the step nose and "fall" at an angle to the next tread. There will be a visible gap from the side with this type of installation.
Capped / Hollywood / Bullnose / Upholstery: The carpet will extend over the step nose and be tacked under the nose.
Will pattern carpet/runners line up the same on each step?
Depends on the pattern and type of installation. If you wish to line up the pattern, extra carpet needs to be ordered to specifically do so.

Yes, berber and loop carpets are susceptible to runs. This can be caused by wheels on chairs, vacuum cleaner nozzles, etc. There is also different equipment with rough edges that tend to catch the carpet “loop” and create runs.

Heavy objects such as furniture can and will leave permanent dents in your carpet. Frequent vacuuming and moving furniture around will reduce the crushing effect.
Can carpet roll marks/ indents go away on their own?
Allow up to 60 days for the roll marks/ dents to relax. Carpet is usually shipped from the manufacturer tightly rolled and will begin to take its intended shape once unpackaged. Additional vacuuming during the first week will speed up this process.
Why is the carpet I chose look/ feel different after installed in my home?

Shedding of loose fibers is common on pile type carpet. It is also expected around the perimeter on all carpet types.
My new carpet is shedding. How can I resolve that?
Vacuuming will help resolve the shedding and you might see some fibers in your vacuum for the first months. Keep in mind that shedding is not a manufacturing defect.

If we are installing carpet in an area that has difficult access or attempting to bring carpet into a basement or attic there could be some marks and scuffs on your walls, baseboards, and railings. Carpet installation entails cutting and tucking against the baseboard where damages during the procedure cannot be prevented. We will do everything possible to avoid marking your baseboards and walls.
Am I responsible for touching up and repainting scuff marks?
